Our Mission

On August 21st, 2017 the LBCC Space Team will be joining 54 other schools throughout the U.S. in live streaming a solar eclipse from the stratosphere as it sweeps across North America. To accomplish this we will be launching a payload from 50 km off the coast of Oregon from the deck of Oregon State University’s research vessel, Pacific Storm. The payload, containing four video cameras, will be lifted to an elevation of 20,000 to 30,000 meters (2 to 3 times the cruising altitude for an airliner!) using a high altitude weather balloon filled with helium gas.
